Bottomless Backpacks Food for Youth
Bottomless Backpacks Food for Youthâ„¢ 
 
 
This program provides food and community resource information each week to families across the Edmonds School District who are in crisis. 

This program currently serves families at Cedar Valley Elementary, Lynndale Elementary, College Place Elementary, Spruce Elementary, College Place Middle School, Mount Lake Terrace Elementary, Beverly Elementary, and Chase Lake Elementary.
 
The Bottomless Backpack program partners with the Edmonds School District's VOICE Lifeskills program for grocery procurement and distribution.  VOICE is a
program which provides comprehensive instruction and vocational experiences to cognitively and physically challenged students, ages 18-21, to prepare them for adult life. 

Students practice budgeting and shopping skills in acquiring loss leader products from partnering grocery stores.  Additionally, the students volunteer their time at local food banks and are thanked with food donations for the program.  Local grocer purchases, warehouse grocery bulk purchases, and donations of the following foods are used in the program: 
    • Pasta (spaghetti and rigatoni),
    • Pasta sauce,Soup, Chili,
    • Refried Beans
    • Kidney Beans
    • Ravioli and other "meat/pasta/canned things"
    • Saltines
    • Graham Crackers
    • Nilla Wafers
    • Tuna
    • Mayo
    • Peanut Butter
    • Jelly
    • Tortillas
    • Taco shells
    • Cereal
    • Oatmeal
    • Baking items: cakes, cookies, brownies
    • Apple Sauce
    • Pudding / Jello mixes

Food donations can be dropped off at the Family Center at 6330 195 St SW in Lynnwood and special pick up arrangements can be made for food drives to benefit the program.  This program requires community support in the form of cash donations, volunteer effort and food donations.
